Insights Into Exhumation and Mantle Hydration Processes at the Deep Galicia Margin From a 3D High‐Resolution Seismic Velocity Model

چکیده

High-resolution velocity models developed using full-waveform inversion (FWI) can image fine details of the nature and structure subsurface. Using a 3D FWI model hyper-thinned crust at Deep Galicia Margin (DGM) west Iberia, we constrain this margin by comparing its with those in other similar tectonic settings. Velocities representative both upper lower continental are present, but there is no clear evidence for distinct crustal layers within crust. Our supports exhumation under footwalls fault blocks to accommodate extension. We used our generate serpentinization map uppermost mantle DGM, depth 100 ms (∼340 m) below S-reflector, low-angle detachment that marks base margin. find good alignment between serpentinized areas overlying major block bounding faults on map, suggesting played an important role transporting water mantle. Further, observe weak correlation heaves beneath hanging-wall blocks, indicating was controlled complex faulting during rifting. A match topographic highs S local highly suggests morphology affected volume-increasing process deformation

Deep Mantle Seismic Modeling and Imaging

Detailed seismic modeling and imaging of Earth’s deep interior is providing key information about lower-mantle structures and processes, including heat flow across the core-mantle boundary, the configuration of mantle upwellings and downwellings, phase equilibria and transport properties of deep mantle materials, and mechanisms of core-mantle coupling. Multichannel seismicwave analysismethods t...

Insights into Refertilization Processes in Lithospheric Mantle from Integrated Isotopic Studies in the Lherz Massif

Differentiation of the Earth's mantle occurs principally through partial melting and extraction of basaltic melt. Among the mantle rocks occurring at the Earth's surface, harzburgites are widely considered as refractory mantle residues left after extraction of a basaltic component. In contrast, fertile lherzolites are generally regarded as pristine mantle, only weakly affected by partial meltin...

Mantle Heterogeneities and the SCEC Reference Three - Dimensional Seismic Velocity Model

We determine upper mantle seismic velocity heterogeneities below Southern California from the inversion of teleseismic travel-time residuals. Teleseismic P-wave arrival times are obtained from three temporary passive experiments and Southern California Seismic Network (SCSN) stations, producing good raypath coverage. The inversion is performed using a damped least-squares conjugate gradient met...

Constructing a Geodynamic A Priori Seismic (GAPS) velocity model of upper mantle heterogeneity

[1] Seismic studies of the deep mantle suffer from the fact that the probing seismic waves must traverse the highly heterogeneous and poorly resolved shallow structure. One potential way forward is to develop highresolution models of the crust and upper mantle using other information. Here we describe the construction of a geodynamic a priori model of some aspects of upper mantle seismic veloci...
